Mitacs Funding Partnership

ETSI-BC is pleased to again partner with Mitacs in FY2025 to to provide enhanced support for projects focused on driving economic diversification in the Southern Interior.

This funding partnership offers enhanced funding for researchers looking to engage in collaborative projects with municipalities, businesses, non-profits, Indigenous, and community research partners in the ETSI-BC service area that support economic development and diversification.

By linking innovative businesses and institutions with skilled students and researchers, ETSI-BC and Mitacs aim to accelerate the development of solutions that address regional challenges and promote sustainable growth. This initiative helps foster collaboration across sectors, stimulates job creation, and strengthens the regional economy, all while empowering the next generation of leaders to make a lasting impact.

This funding partnership applies to projects using the Accelerate and BSI funding programs offered by Mitacs. ETSI-BC and Mitacs partner to cover 75% of the cost the first internship unit of the project, proving applicants with 3:1 leveraging for the first part of their initiative. Eligible Projects

ETSI-BC will provide financial assistance for Mitacs projects that help contribute to the following outcomes:

  • Advancement in any of ETSI-BC’s target sectors: agriculture, economic development, small business, technology/innovation, tourism/sport, and energy/mining/forestry/transportation.
  • Growth and innovation in new and emerging industry clusters, including supporting the region’s industry to become more environmentally sustainable and transition to a Net Zero economy.
  • Economic development opportunities in rural and/or Indigenous communities.
  • Inclusion of diverse groups including Indigenous-led organizations and Indigenous students in economic development initiatives.
